SPAM ADVICE:
One of our long term trusted partners LA Computer Help, Dan Renner has some advice to offer on protecting oneself regarding spam filters:

The basic, basic rule would be to NEVER, EVER use address-based rules. THEY WILL NOT WORK. This is due to the fact that spam comes from hijacked computers which are never used for longer than a week at a time by any particular spammer.

Probably the most effective suggestion I could make is to have Outlook users (who DO NOT USE the calendar or shared contact functions) and Outlook Express users switch to Mozilla's Thunderbird. The reason being that the built-in spam filtering JUST PLAIN WORKS. As an added bonus, Thunderbird CANNOT run the exploits that plague the Outlook and Outlook Express programs.

Other than that, I'd suggest a combination firewall/spam filter (SpamAssasin) installation that can be downloaded free from the community section of http://endian.it and install it on an old computer.

With this, the 2-20,000 daily attempts to overtake your computer(s) will be blocked (which a router CANNOT do) along with the spam being cut down.

As for sending out emails, the same firewall/spam filter software I mentioned below has a built-in outgoing email server that will bypass the user's ISP blocking outgoing email as spam. There is one more thing that is needed, and that is a static IP address.

So the endian software will help ensure that one's computer is not hijacked, and the outgoing server will allow one to send huge blocks of outgoing email (as in newsletters, etc.).

This will handle the majority of the problems of getting nailed as a spammer. The rest would be using a GOOD anti-virus software to stop your computer from becoming hijacked. (Kaspersky HIGHLY recommended.)

As to subscriptions, there exist multiple verification software (I believe the legal requirement is 2 times) that one could get and use.
